[ eat with Meidi ] Qube on Bay - Ultimo, Sydney

by - July 18, 2018

Meeting new people is not only fun but it's also a great way to widen your network, moreover if we meet new friends with same passion. I was invited by Kera and Amber to join them brunch at Qube on Bay. What do we have in common? all of us have the same passion on food photography and food blog, how cool is that?

Qube on bay is located on Bay street, really close to Broadway shopping mall in Ultimo. Funny thing is, I used to live around 100 meters from the place, yes that close and I didn't realize that this place served really good meal, silly Meidi.

We went there to try their winter special menu and it was not only one, but there are 4 winter special menus to warm up this season. We started our brunch by ordering coffee while waiting for all special menus to be served.

Starting off with drinks, I ordered Mocha meanwhile Kera got her cold drip and as long as I remember Amber got her latte but it was not the end, their friendly staff also handed special affogato for us. Why is it special? They usually have affogato with vanilla or black sesame ice cream but that day, we got red velvet ice cream. Yes you read it right, RED VELVET, how awesome is that!.

Our brunch table situation

The Meatball ($16), oven baked meatball with basil pesto, house made Napolitana sauce, mozarella, crispy sage and served with sourdough toast. This is one of my favorite, their Napolitana sauce was seasoned well and the meatball was really tasty. It really blow my mind away, I thought it will just an "okay" dish but it wasn't.

Next is Wood smoked salmon rillette ($18), wasabi salmon rillette on the top of sourdough toast, radicchio, avocado, topped with creme fraiche, salmon roe, pomegranate. I always think that eating fish or seafood for your first meal as close as to a healthy start of the day. This dish is so flavorful, you will get sweet, sour and bitter all in one dish. Top of that, the presentation was really pretty and appetizing.

Crab meat croquette sando ($17), crab meat & potato croquette on soft white bread with cabagge and fennel slaw, mustard mayo, kastu sauce and served with sweet potato crisp. The fact that this dish and the previous one has Japanese food influence was perfect for me. Yes, Japanese food is my second favorite food right after Indonesian food (of course). I like the texture of the croquette and how big it was. The slaw worked well with its fresh and crunchiness.

Winter Broth ($15), pearl barley, red lentil, quinoa, kale, shitake, toasted pepitas with garlic toast. To be honest, I just tried the soup a little bit to know how does it taste. I'm not a big fan of quinoa in a form of soup nor lentil but the soup is quite good for my liking and perfect for that chilly morning.

Winter broth

French toast ($17), brioche french toast with matcha mascarpone, yuzu curd, seasonal berries, toasted pecan. This one is not part of the special menu, we also ordered this one, because most of the people who come to Qube on Bay tried this one and Kera also recommended us to try. Do you want to know what was the one make this dish special? beside the fresh berries, It was Matcha mascarpone. I love mascarpone but I didn't realize I love matcha mascarpone even more until I tried this one. The texture of the french toast was good, it was not too dry nor too soggy.

This experience undoubtedly become one of my favorite brunch time in Sydney, this year. I'm pretty sure I will come back to this place for another special menu or even for their french toast, gosh I keep dreaming about it.

Thank you Amber from @sydneybrunchstylist for extending the invite, I dined as a guest of Qube on Bay but all photos and opinions are mine.
